What I learned about my writing, my book, and applying to residencies and workshops from the Tin House Winter Workshop

I don’t know where it came from; the idea to apply for residencies and workshops.

Maybe it was at the bookstore where I listened to authors talk about how their books came to be. Maybe it came from reviewing books, studying the Acknowledgement’s for insight into an author’s life off the page before our interview and noticing the organizations they’d thanked for their space and support. Maybe it was simply that my own book started to take shape this time last year and I thought it might benefit from protected writing time.

Whatever the case, the idea arrived and I applied and here we are, two weeks post-Tin House Winter Workshops and a February residency at Centrum.
